What Shall I Read This August? + Giveaway

Last month you choose Bright Young Things for me to read and to be honest I wasn't sure I was going to like it. Turns out I loved it! (Read my review here) so I guess you guys are better judges of books than I am!

So what is this all about? I realised the other day that I've been doing these Throwback Thursday posts inspired by Melissa at My World...in words and pictures for nearly year now - I have posted about over 60 books I own but I have hardly read any yet. So on the first Thursday of each month I will post a poll highlighting all the Throwback Thursday books I've highlighted in the last month plus one of the older Throwbacks and ask you to pick which book I should read. The most popular book after 5 days or so, will be picked up by me and actually read and (hopefully!) reviewed by the end of the month. However, in thanks I will also offer anyone who enters a copy of any book from my TBR Shelf. This way older books get a lot of love from both of us!

So to summarise -
- Pick a book you want me to read from my Throwback Thursday's posts and be in with a chance to win a book for yourself from my TBR pile for your own - check my TBR Shelf at the top for some other books that I need to get round to reading!
- I'll ship it out to from the Book Depository or fishpond so it will be open internationally.
- Leave a comment for an extra entry telling my why I should read your choice!
- Open to followers only (Sorry, but I want to reward those who stop by regularly! Also I'm not advertising or publicising this giveaway so it's just for those who read my blog regularly!)
- Poll closes midnight on Tuesday 7th August - I will try to announce the winning book and lucky follower, by next Thursday.

This month the books I need to give some serious love to are (you can go to the original posts to see what I said about them if you click on them!):

Bloodring - Faith Hunter

  1. I think you should read Unholy Ghosts by Stacia Kane. It's really intriguing and different from other UF books. I enjoyed the first one and I really need to read the second one. Just need more time lol.

  4. I think you should read Room. I entered and won a giveaway for this on Free Book Friday. The hype peaked my interest but I haven't read it yet. I am somewhat hesitant b/c of the emotional nature and fear of disappointment. I'd love to read your thoughts on it.

  5. Unholy Ghosts for its flawed heroine and magnetic hero.

  6. Okay, out of those books I have only read Unholy Ghosts but the series is amazing! I even got my BFF hooked on it. It does take awhile for Unholy Ghosts to get interesting (maybe halfway through) and I didn't really fall in love with the series until the end of the 2nd book. My favs are books 4 & 5. They are the kind of books that make you a little sad when they are over and mentally stay with you for a couple of days.

That being said, it's not for everyone. Some people might be offended buy the lack of religion and the drug use, but it you can get past that, I think you will really like the series. Plus, there are reasons for the drug use that are only hinted at in the first book.

  7. Read Room - it's an issue book, it's got a currents-event feel as there have been so many cases with kids locked up like that. I think it will be interesting:)

  9. I recommend ROOM by Emma Donoghue! I read it a while back and I have to tell you, its perspective from a five-year-old boy is refreshing and brutally honest. It's a fast-moving read and I trust you'll be turning the pages in excitement to find out the outcome. Aside from that it's already been awarded and/or nominated for a number of awards/book lists. Give it a shot! You won't regret it!

  10. For angels, demons, magic and mayhem read every one of Faith Hunters series including Blood Ring Mel as the series is fantastic fantasy!

I loved those books long before Jane Yellowrock ever came into existence.

  11. I think you should read Room by Emma Donoghue. I haven't read it yet - it's patiently waiting for me to pick it up off my bookshelf - but I have heard some really amazing things about it. It has a completely unique POV (a 5 year old boy's) and is supposed to be a very touching and powerful read.

  12. Unholy Ghosts!!!! It's such an amazing book. I had some trouble getting used to the street talk but the story is soooo good.

  13. You must read Room! The book, I can't even describe it. I just meant to read one page, I was hanging over my bed, it was uncomfortable, still I stayed there for 100 pages cos I was hooked (and my back killed me the enxt day)

  14. I'd say Room. I hear it's pretty powerful. I have the audio, but not the courage to listen yet. I know it's gonna tear my heart out!

  17. I would choose Bloodring by Faith Hunter. Although I haven't read it, I've heard great things about her Rogue Mage series. I have read her Jane Yellowrock series and it is awesome, so I would expect Bloodring to be great too.

  19. You have to read Unholy Ghosts. It's one of my favourite UF series! It's a bit different from other UF books, darker, but that just makes me love it all the more!
