My Book Haul/In My Mailbox

The Story Siren hosts a weekly meme where bloggers can share what goodies they've purchased/received this week. If you get a chance head over to The Story Siren and check out what everyone is up to!

Unshapely Things - Mark Del Fanco
Publisher: Ace Fantasy
In the alleys of the decrepit Boston neighborhood known as the Weird, fairy prostitutes are turning up dead. The crime scenes show signs of residual magic, but the Guild, which polices the fey, has more "important" crimes to investigate and dumps the case on human law enforcement. Boston police call in Connor Grey, a druid and former hotshot Guild investigator-whose magical abilities were crippled after a run-in with a radical environmentalist elf. As Connor battles red tape and his own shortcomings, he realizes that the murders are not random, but part of an ancient magical ritual. And if Connor can't figure out the killer's M.O., the culmination of the spell might just bring about a worldwide cataclysm.

I've picked this book up on a few occasions as I though it seemed interesting, but never quite made the till with it (have you ever done that?). This week though I stumbled across it in a clearance sale at my local Waterstones so I thought I'd take a chance on it!

Frankenstein: Lost Souls - Dean Koontz
Publisher: UK -Harper
Frankenstein's first monster, Deucalion, has spent two hundred years trying to put an end to his creator. Now he learns that a new Frankenstein clone, Victor Helios, is out there again, somewhere. Terrifyingly, with each incarnation the sinister doctor draws closer to the possibility of succeeding in his ambition to create a new human race – which he will control. He has found an enigmatic backer and is working in a secret location.
Together with the two ex-cops who helped him destroy the previous Victor, Deucalion is drawn to the small Montana town where Victor's grotesque new creations are taking shape.
Victor's New Race is spectacularly different, a product of cutting-edge technology and stem-cell circuits, and when things go wrong, they go wrong in very unexpected ways.
Frankenstein is unleashing a new menace on the world, whether or not he can control it. It may be too late, even if Deucalion can bring him down.

I loved the first two books in Dean Koontz re-imagining of the old legend and while the third was okay I thought it completed the story nicely. Now, there's a fourth book I knew I had to pick it up, but perhaps it was best left as it was...?

Angel's Blood - Nalini Singh
Publisher: UK - Gollancz
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux knows she's the best - but she doesn't know if she's good enough for this job. Hired by the dangerously beautiful Archangel Raphael, a being so lethal that no mortal wants his attention, only one thing is clear - failure is not an option . . . even if the task she's been set is impossible. Because this time, it's not a wayward vamp she has to track. It's an archangel gone bad. The job will put Elena in the midst of a killing spree like no other . . . and pull her to the razor's edge of passion. Even if the hunt doesn't destroy her, succumbing to Raphael's seductive touch just may. Because when archangels play, mortals break . . .

Another UF series that's been receiving rave reviews and I haven't picked up yet. Luckily I found this copy in one of my favourite book stores and can add it to the TBR pile.

So what have you picked up this week?

  6. I haven't heard of any of these. Angels Blood looks good. It's a long time since I've read a Dean Koontz and I've never heard of the Frankenstein series. I'll have to look into it.
