My Book Haul/In My Mailbox

The Story Siren hosts a weekly meme where bloggers can share what goodies they've purchased/received this week. If you get a chance head over to The Story Siren and check out what everyone is up to!

Last Sacrifice (Vampire Academy 6) - Richelle Mead
Publisher: UK - Puffin

Rose is on trial for high treason. Someone is trying to frame her and it looks like even Dimitri might not be able to save her now.

I won this from Stephanie at Books are a Girls Best Friend and it arrived this week! So excited as I now don't have to ration the remaining Vampire Academy books - I can go through all three of them in a couple of weeks and no waiting to see how the story ends! So excited! *Squee*

The Iron King - Julie Kagawa
Publisher: UK - MIRA Ink
Something has always felt slightly off in Meghan's life, ever since her father disappeared before her eyes when she was six. She has never quite fit in at school...or at home. When a dark stranger begins watching her from afar, and her prankster best friend becomes strangely protective of her, Meghan senses that everything she's known is about to change. But she could never have guessed the truth - that she is the daughter of a mythical fairy king and is a pawn in a deadly war. Now Meghan will learn just how far she'll go to save someone she cares about, to stop a mysterious evil no faery creature dare face...and to find love with a young prince who might rather see her dead than let her touch his icy heart.

This book's been on my wishlist for a while and I had a little spending splurge this week so I picked it up!

Delirium - Lauren Oliver
Publisher: UK - Hodder & Stoughton
There was a time when love was the most important thing in the world. People would go to the end of the earth to find it. They would tell lies for it. Even kill for it.
Then, at last, they found the cure.
Now, everything is different. Scientists are able to eradicate love, and the government demands that all citizens receive the cure upon turning eighteen. Lena Haloway has always looked forward to the day when she'll be cured. A life without love is a life without pain: safe, measured, predictable, and happy.
But then, with only ninety-five days left until her treatment, Lena does the unthinkable...

This book has been getting a lot of coverage over the last few months and while I don't usually buy hardbacks I've gone out on a limb with Delirium - hope the hype is worth it! :)

Dead In The Family - Charlaine Harris
Publisher: UK - Gollancz
Sookie Stackhouse is dealing with a whole host of family problems, ranging from her own kin (a non-human fairy and a telepathic second cousin) demanding a place in her life, to her lover Eric's vampire sire, an ancient being, who arrives with Eric's 'brother' in tow at a most inopportune moment. And Sookie's tracking down a distant relation of her ailing neighbour (and ex), Vampire Bill Compton. In addition to the multitude of family issues complicating her life, the werewolf pack of Shreveport has asked Sookie for a special favour, and since Sookie is an obliging young woman, she agrees. But this favour for the wolves has dire results for Sookie, who is still recovering from the trauma of her abduction during the Fairy War.

I've been reading Sookie's adventures for years (long before True Blood started!) and while the series has seen better days, I still enjoy time in Bon Temps.

The Gone-Away World - Nick Harkaway
Publisher: UK - Windmill
The Jorgmund Pipe is the backbone of the world, and it’s on fire. Gonzo Lubitsch, professional hero and troubleshooter, is hired to put it out – but there’s more to the fire, and the Pipe itself, than meets the eye. The job will take Gonzo and his best friend, our narrator, back to their own beginnings and into the dark heart of the Jorgmund Company itself. Equal parts raucous adventure, comic odyssey and geek nirvana, The Gone-Away World is a story of – among other things – love and loss; of ninjas, pirates, politics; of curious heroism in strange and dangerous places; and of a friendship stretched beyond its limits. But it also the story of a world, not unlike our own, in desperate need of heroes – however unlikely they may seem.

After Sarah's rave review on Wednesday I was desperate to get my hands on a copy. When I was looking in the bookstore yesterday I found a signed copy of it so the universe was obviously telling me to pick up a copy! Can't wait to start reading it though. :)

So what have you picked up this week? :)
