Steel's Edge (The Edge #4) - Ilona Andrews
Publisher: Ace
The Edge lies between worlds, on the border between the Broken, where people shop at Wal-Mart and magic is a fairy tale—and the Weird, where blueblood aristocrats rule, changelings roam, and the strength of your magic can change your destiny…
Charlotte de Ney is as noble as they come, a blueblood straight out of the Weird. But even though she possesses rare magical healing abilities, her life has brought her nothing but pain. After her marriage crumbles, she flees to the Edge to build a new home for herself. Until Richard Mar is brought to her for treatment, and Charlotte’s life is turned upside down once again.
Richard is a swordsman without peer, future head of his large and rambunctious Edger clan—and he’s on a clandestine quest to wipe out slavers trafficking humans in the Weird. So when his presence leads his very dangerous enemies to Charlotte, she vows to help Richard destroy them. The slavers’ operation, however, goes deeper than Richard knows, and even working together, Charlotte and Richard may not survive...

This was my pre-order from ages ago...I love Ilona Andrews writing so all her books are pre-orders for me. However, I am very far behind on The Edge series - I've only read the first book! I have all the other ones waiting to be read though...hmm...sounds like a theme week could be pending... The big question though - do pre-orders count as a purchase during a book buying ban...?

Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson #4) - Darynda Jones
Publisher: St Martin's Press
Sometimes being the grim reaper really is that. Grim. And since Charley’s last case went so awry, she has taken a couple months off to wallow in the wonders of self-pity. But when a woman shows up on her doorstep convinced someone is trying to kill her, Charley has to force herself to rise above. Or at least get dressed. She quickly realizes something is amiss when everyone the woman knows swears she’s insane. The more they refute the woman’s story, the more Charley believes it.
In the meantime, the sexy, sultry son of Satan, Reyes Farrow, has been cleared of all charges. He is out of prison and out of Charley’s life, as per her wishes and several perfectly timed death threats. But his absence has put a serious crimp in her sex life. While there are other things to consider, like the fact that the city of Albuquerque has been taken hostage by an arsonist, Charley is having a difficult time staying away. Especially when it looks like Reyes may be involved. Just when life was returning to normal, Charley is thrust back into the world of crime, punishment, and the devil in blue jeans.

This book was a competition win from the wonderful Suzanne Johnson as part of her Readers Choice Giveaway over at Preternatura. Again it's a series I'm behind with (I haven't started it yet!), but one I have been collecting the books and want to read them all in a short time next year!
So that's my book buying week - only another two weeks to go! :-)
What have you picked up this week?
Psst...help me decide what to read this month and maybe win a book!

When I was on my ban I didn't get any freebies either, just sayin'! ;-) Of course it's entirely up to you what you allow yourself to do (or not).
ReplyDeleteThat said, I decided not to buy any books this month. Then again I should add I stocked up on quite a few books in November all of which I will finally present in today's Postman Files.
BTW I have this slight suspicion that book buying bans only really work when you keep them up until the bitter end aka until your TBR pile only consists of one single book!? What a scary thought ...
I think you could be right Birgit...I kinda went on this ban on a whim so I could buy Christmas presents. In future I really need to lay out some ground rules and think about what I actually want to achieve with future book buying bans - is it reducing TBR pile or saving money? Some good learnings for the next one!
DeleteI am unsure about the new Edge book, I loved book 1, liked book 2, disappointed in book 3, it just went downhill
ReplyDeleteThe charley davidson books was awesome! I really need to try this ilona andrews series! Really curious about it. Happy reading!
ReplyDeletePre-orders definetly don't count, really you bought them ages ago so technically you've not bought anything new. I'm pretty sure this well thought out theory would hold up in a court of law (well maybes...)
ReplyDeleteLike you I love Ilona Andrews but I'm more of a Kate Daniels fan than The Edge fan, I've read the first book and have the second sitting on my shelf unread. I'm thinking of doing a little catch up with my favourite series challenge by myself next year as I have quite a few UF and PNR on my shelf (including the Charley Davidson series too!)
Have a great week Mel:)
I really need to catch up on this series by Ilona Andrews, I have only read the first book. I also need to read book 3 for Charley Davidson.
ReplyDeleteGreat haul, check out my haul
I can't wait to read 4th Grave. I need to see if my library has it in yet.

Mel, I can't believe you haven't read Charlie Davidson yet!!! She is phenomenal! READ HER NOW, she is so much fun! The Edge series is good, but I only read the first two books and I know that I prefer Ilona and Gordon's Kate Daniels series, there is just so much more spark and insane chemistry in it.
ReplyDeleteI would say you've done really well again, although you have to be dead sure about freebies if you want to go through a lot of your kindle books. Sometimes you download things on a whim and they are not necessarily what you'd like. And they pile up...
Have a great week and enjoy all your reads, hon! :)
Great picks. I need to get to Charlie Davidson series too.
