Same Book/Different Cover - Rot & Ruin

This is an occasional feature where I compare different covers of the same book...
It's December and I've been reading a lot of Christmas themed books...so for this months book cover comparison I wanted to try something completely different...in fact these covers may even give you nightmares! So what's the book this month?

It's Rot and Ruin by Jonathan Maberry - a fantastic YA book set several years after the zombie apocalypse. It was one of favourite reads and I still regret that I haven't read of the sequel yet...next year definitely! One interesting view is the different titles used in different countries.

US Cover
UK Cover

French Cover
German Cover

US Cover: That bulging eye staring at you from the cover with vivid green pupil...this cover disturbs me...I'm not sure I would want to read the book as it doesn't encourage me to pick th book up!
UK Cover: A wooden door with an eye looking at us. Less disturbing than the US cover, and I like the muted red, even the way rot is in lower case appeals to me. But somehow I'm not sure if it's a little bland in the end...
French Cover: Barbed wire across the book with a mist covered forest behind. What is lurking in the woods and will the barbed wire keep it out? This reminds me of many horror movie posters and has a very cinematic feel to it...
German Cover: More barbed wire, with a burning sky and a creepy raven flying overhead - very atmospheric and creepy. Is the raven flying towards something or away from something - is there anything else in the world? I don't know why but I'm reminded of Mad Max films!

My Verdict? The French cover appeals most to me! I guess I like the movie feel!

So what's your favourite cover? :-)

  1. I agree, I'd either pick the French or the US one. :) The background of the French cover reminds me of Tana French's In The Woods a little bit. It looks really good!

  4. I have the UK cover and I love it. It's actually got texture to it with the wood grain. So, on the screen it is a bit flatter than IRL. I like the US cover second.

  5. Oh wow! I think I like the US cover. But I didn't realize there were so many different ones of this one, or should say Hadn't seen them yet. Thanks!
