On My Wishlist #12

This is a meme from Book Chick City. There are so many books out there that I want to read that this is the only way I can keep track! After a month of Halloween themed books I thought I'd try something a big more heavenly...it's an angel themed wishlist this week!

Angel Time (Song of the Seraphim 1) - Anne Rice
Publisher: UK - Arrow (July 2010)
Toby O'Dare – Lucky the Fox – is a contract killer of underground fame. In his youth Lucky had dreamt of being a priest, instead he fell into a life danger and violence. Living under a series of aliases he long ago lost any sense of his true self, becoming a pawn to ‘The Right Man, a contractor of dark and unknown allegiances. Lucky has one place where he can be without disguise, but his latest assignment is at this sanctuary, The Mission Inn. And it is an order to kill. Into this nightmarish world of lone and lethal missions, comes a mysterious stranger, a seraph, who offers him a chance to save lives, rather than destroy them. Now he has his chance to repair the damage of his past.

Now, I adore Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles and The Mayfair Witches, but her best books are the older books. She stopped doing genre books for a while but has returned with a new series about Angels. I'm not sure if it's going to be any good but for old times sakes I'd like to give Angel Time a try to see if that world is as complex and intriguing as her vampire series was.

Bloodring - Faith Hunter
Publisher: Roc (October 2008)
No one thought the apocalypse would be like this. The world didn’t end. And the appearance of seraphs heralded three plagues and a devastating war between the forces of good and evil. Over a hundred years later, the earth has plunged into an ice age, and seraphs and demons fight a never-ending battle while religious strife rages among the surviving humans.
Thorn St. Croix is no ordinary neomage. All the others of her kind, mages who can twist leftover creation energy to their will, were gathered together into Enclaves long ago; and there they live in luxurious confinement, isolated from other humans and exploited for their magic. When her powers nearly drive her insane, she escapes—and now she lives as a fugitive, disguised as a human, channeling her gifts for war into stone-magery and the pacific tasks of jewelry making. But when Thaddeus Bartholomew, a dangerously attractive policeman, shows up on her doorstep and accuses her of kidnapping her ex-husband, she retrieves her weapons and risks revealing her identity to find him. And for Thorn, the punishment for revelation is death….

I read Faith Hunters Jane Yellowrock books earlier this year and loved them so I was very excited to learn she had written a previous series about angels and demons fighting and destroying the world, while the remaining humans survive as best they can - how cool does that sound?

Unearthly - Cynthia Hand
Publisher: Harper Teen (January 2011)

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what it is, though, isn't easy. Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place--and out of place, at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.  As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make--between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

I came across this book at Melissa's Books & Things wishlist a couple of weeks ago and instantly wanted to read it!

So what's on your wishlist this week?

  1. Whilst I loved the film of Interview with a Vampire, I've never actually read any Anne Rice. Is the book as good as the film?

I'm glad you enjoyed Dracula! I actually didn't enjoy Frankenstein, but that may be because I did it for my English A-Level and spent too long going into the philosophical overtones.

  2. Mel if you are in love with Faith Hunters Jane Yellowrock you will absolutely adore Thorn's books...

Anne Rice hopefully is going to cash in on the new craze about this genre, just like she did with her vamps and witches!

  5. I've never read Anne Rice, because I was too afraid her books would scare me. However, I have Unearthly sitting on my desk... just waiting to be read.
