My Book Haul/In My Mailbox

The Story Siren hosts a weekly meme where bloggers can share what goodies they've purchased/received this week. If you get a chance head over to The Story Siren and check out what everyone is up to!

This week Amazon were having a sale on Kindle books and I couldn't resist picking up a few books that I've had my eye on - or ones I found interesting...especially as most of them were  around £1 each!

Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - Cassandra Clare
Kindle Book
Sixteen-year-old Clary Fray is an ordinary teenager, who likes hanging out in Brooklyn with her friends. But everything changes the night she witnesses a murder, committed by a group of teens armed with medieval weaponry. The murderous group are Shadowhunters, secret warriors dedicated to driving demons out of this dimension and back into their own. Drawn inexorably into a terrifying world, Clary slowly begins to learn the truth about her family - and the battle for the fate of the world.

I know, I know...everyone else in the world has already discovered this series and has been raving about it, but as usual I'm behind everyone else! :)

An Expert In Murder - Nicola Upson
Kindle Book
It is 1934, and celebrated Scottish crime writer Josephine Tey is on her way to London to see her own hit West End play – but her trip is interrupted by the grisly murder of a young train passenger. Detective Inspector Archie Penrose is convinced that the killing is connected to Tey, and that somewhere in the flamboyant theatre world lurks a ruthless and spiteful killer who is out to ensure she becomes a victim of her own success.

I've seen this in the shops for a long time and have always been intrigued, but it's always been a case of so many books, not enough money - until now! :)

The Adoration of Jenna Fox - Mary E Pearson
Kindle Book
A seventeen-year-old girl wakes from a year-long coma and is told her name is Jenna Fox. She doesn't remember the accident; she doesn't remember her life; she doesn't remember herself. Her parents show her home movies of her past, but is she really the same girl she sees on the screen? When the memories start to come, they come with questions – questions no one wants to answer. How did the accident happen? Why does her own grandmother hate her so? And why does she feel her parents are hiding her away? Who is Jenna Fox?

This just sounds really interesting and I'm curious about the title being adoration rather than anything else.

The UnTied Kingdom - Kate Johnson
Kindle Book
The portal to an alternate world was the start of all her troubles - or was it? When Eve Carpenter lands with a splash in the Thames, it's not the London or England she's used to. No one has a telephone or knows what a computer is. England s a third world country and Princess Di is still alive. But worst of all, everyone thinks Eve's a spy. Including Major Harker who has his own problems. His sworn enemy is looking for a promotion. The general wants him to undertake some ridiculous mission to capture a computer, which Harker vaguely envisions running wild somewhere in Yorkshire. Turns out the best person to help him is Eve. She claims to be a popstar. Harker doesn't know what a popstar is, although he suspects it's a fancy foreign word for spy . Eve knows all about computers, and electricity. Eve is dangerous. There's every possibility she's mad. And Harker is falling in love with her.

I LOVE the idea behind this story - romance, alternate worlds, England - all things I love! I can't wait to start reading this. :)

So what have you picked up this week? :)
