Throwback Thursday #56 - Unholy Ghosts

This is a great feature that Melissa at My World...in words and pictures has been doing for a while and I wanted to jump on board! There are plenty of books out there I desperately want...

But what about all those wonderful books that are ALREADY on my shelves?

Unholy Ghosts - Stacia Kane
THE DEPARTED HAVE ARRIVED.
The world is not the way it was. The dead have risen, and the living are under attack. The powerful Church of Real Truth, in charge since the government fell, has sworn to reimburse citizens being harassed by the deceased.
Consequently, there are many false claims of hauntings from those hoping to profit. Enter Chess Putnam, a fully-tattooed witch, freewheeling Debunker, and ghost hunter. She’s got a real talent for nailing human liars and banishing the wicked dead. But she’s keeping a dark secret from the Church: a little drug problem that’s landed her in hot and dangerous water.
Chess owes a lot of money to a murderous drug lord named Bump. And Bump wants immediate payback. All Chess has to do is dispatch a very nasty species of undead from an old airport. But the job involves black magic, human sacrifice, a nefarious demonic creature, and crossing swords with enough wicked energy to wipe out a city of souls. Toss in lust for a rival gang leader and a dangerous attraction to Bump’s ruthless enforcer, and Chess begins to wonder if the rush is really worth it.
Hell, yeah

I know this series has a lot of fans, but for some reason I've not got around to starting it yet. I think when it first came out it was a little too dark for me - but now I love dark UF so perhaps I should give it a whirl!

Have you read this series? What do you think?

  1. Downside Ghosts is one of my all time favourite series EVER. The main character Chess is like no other character out there right now and I completely fell in love with Terrible, I even had him as a book boyfriend! You need to read it Mel:)

    1. I think I do - especially as I just discovered I've won a copy of the fourth (?) in the series, Sacrifical Magic! Nothing like peer pressure to get me to read a book! :-)

  4. Ooh- I'd never heard of this series before, but it does look good. Sometimes you need a good dark UF! Variety is good!
