My Book Haul / Showcase Sundays

This is Books, Biscuits and Tea's Showcase Sunday where I share my lovely book hauls each week. Have a look back at Vicki's link up to see what everyone is up too!

It was another good reading week - the reading gods are still smiling on me - either that or I'm just choosing good books at the moment! I loved Hot Blooded by Amanda Carlson - fast, fun and frantic UF while The Silent Stars Go By by Dan Abnett felt just like a Doctor Who episode! I also finished The Eternity Cure by Julie Kagawa which was an exciting sequel with some interesting developments and just yesterday I finished Blood and Magick by James R Tuck - real hard boiled UF fun.

I had another little splurge this week as there were so many good deals out there! These are all one I've bought as I'm reducing my review pile and haven't been lucky with the giveaways recently. My idea for only buying the same number of books I've read in a week kinda went out the window as a result...oh, well! Even so that was four books down this week and seven new ones...

Bought

The Kingmaker's Daughter - Philippa Gregory
Publisher: Simon & Schuster
The Kingmaker’s Daughter is the gripping and ultimately tragic story of the daughters of the man known as the “Kingmaker,” the most powerful magnate in England through the Cousins’ Wars. In the absence of a son and heir, he uses the two girls as pawns in his political games, but they grow up to be influential players in their own right.
At the court of Edward IV and his beautiful queen, Elizabeth Woodville, Anne grows from a delightful child brought up in intimacy and friendship with the family of Richard, Duke of Gloucester, to become ever more fearful and desperate when her father makes war on his former friends. Her will is tested when she is left widowed and fatherless, with her mother in sanctuary and her sister married to the enemy. Fortune’s wheel turns again when Richard rescues Anne from her sister’s house, with danger still following Anne, even as she eventually ascends to the throne as queen. Having lost those closest to her, she must protect herself and her precious only child, Prince Edward, from a court full of royal rivals.

I am behind with this series but I do like a historical novel!

Odd Apocalypse - Dean Koontz
Publisher: Harper Collins
Odd Thomas has seen danger and he has seen death. He lives between two worlds, communicating with the lingering dead. He stands between us and our darkest fears, never failing the tests that confront him, whatever the cost. He finds refuge in a crumbling mansion, a place of terrible secrets, haunted by lingering spirits.

It's been a while since I read any Dean Koontz but his books are always ones I can relax into and enjoy.

Trapped - Kevin Hearne
Publisher: Orbit
After twelve years of secret training, Atticus O'Sullivan is finally ready to bind his apprentice, Granuaile, to the earth and double the number of Druids in the world. But on the eve of the ritual, the world that thought he was dead abruptly discovers that he's still alive, and they would much rather he return to the grave. Having no other choice, Atticus, his trusted Irish wolfhound, Oberon, and Granuaile travel to the base of Mount Olympus, where the Roman god Bacchus is anxious to take his sworn revenge - but he'll have to get in line behind an ancient vampire, a band of dark elves, and an old god of mischief, who all seem to have KILL THE DRUID at the top of their to-do lists

So now I have all the books released in this series - I just need to read them!

Darkness Divine - PC Cast, Gena Showalter, Maggie Shayne & Rhyannon Byrd
Publisher: MIRA
Enter a world where darkness rules and love must stand the tests of war.
Join four favourite paranormal authors, including bestseller P.C. Cast, on a deadly journey where love and survival are intertwined.
In Divine Beginnings, Healer Aine must chose between treating an enigmatic enemy or letting him die, whilst The Amazon’s Curse could kill the passion that Nola and vampire warrior Zane share.
Toying with New Orleans Voodoo, leaves Tessa haunted by a sinfully sexy man., whilstlast scion of the dragon clan Rhys is tormented by his desire for Alia as he struggles to fight the Edge of Craving.

I bought this mostly for the PC Cast story - I love her Divine series!

The Devil Colony - James Rollins
Publisher: Orion
Deep in the Rocky Mountains, the discovery of hundreds of mummified bodies stirs international attention. Despite doubts about the bodies' origins, the local Native American Heritage Commission lays claim to the remains.
During a riot at the site, an anthropologist dies horribly. All evidence points to a radical group of Native Americans, including a teenage who escapes with a vital clue to the murder and calls on her uncle and Director of Sigma Force, Painter Crowe, for help.
Painter is determined to protect his niece and uncover the truth. Yet even greater threat looms as Painter begins to unravel explosive mysteries that indicate that the founding of the United States might be based on a lie.

The Sigma Force series is a fun thriller adventure - in the vein of Dan Brown but slightly tongue in cheek I feel!

Kitty Rocks The House (Kitty Norville #11) - Carrie Vaughn
Publisher: Tor
On the heels of Kitty's return from London, a new werewolf shows up in Denver, one who threatens to split the pack by challenging Kitty's authority at every turn. The timing could not be worse; Kitty needs all the allies she can muster to go against the ancient vampire, Roman, if she's to have any hope of defeating his Long Game. But there's more to this intruder than there seems, and Kitty must uncover the truth, fast.

Kitty is one of my favourite series - there's something so likeable about Kitty and her adventures!

The Rising - Kelley Armstrong
Publisher: Atom
Things are getting desperate for Maya and her friends. Hunted by the St. Clouds and a rival Cabal, they’re quickly running out of places to hide. And with the whole world thinking they died in a helicopter crash, it’s not like they can just go to the authorities for help.
All they have is the name and number of someone who might be able to give them a few answers. Answers to why they’re so valuable, and why their supernatural powers are getting out of control. But Maya is unprepared for the truths that await her. And now, like it or not, she’ll have to face down some demons from her past if she ever hopes to move on with her life. Because Maya can’t keep running forever.

I'm a big Kelley Armstrong fan but I have resisted starting this trilogy so far so I didn't have to wait a long time between book releases. Now this book is out I can read the whole trilogy with no waiting!

What have you picked up this week...?
