Throwback Thursday #90 - Seraphina

This is a great feature that Melissa at My words and pictures has been doing for a while which looks at those wonderful books that are ALREADY on my shelves that we haven't got round to reading yet...

Seraphina - Rachel Hartman
Publisher: Random House
Four decades of peace have done little to ease the mistrust between humans and dragons in the kingdom of Goredd. Folding themselves into human shape, dragons attend court as ambassadors, and lend their rational, mathematical minds to universities as scholars and teachers. As the treaty's anniversary draws near, however, tensions are high.
Seraphina Dombegh has reason to fear both sides. An unusually gifted musician, she joins the court just as a member of the royal family is murdered—in suspiciously draconian fashion. Seraphina is drawn into the investigation, partnering with the captain of the Queen's Guard, the dangerously perceptive Prince Lucian Kiggs. While they begin to uncover hints of a sinister plot to destroy the peace, Seraphina struggles to protect her own secret, the secret behind her musical gift, one so terrible that its discovery could mean her very life.

I haven't read a dragon based book for a while but I think I feel the need for some smoke and fire. This came out last year and I read some pretty favourable reviews so maybe I should pick it up soon...?

  1. Yes, please do! I've got it on my shelf as well, and it sounds absolutely fabulous, so maybe we can bully each other to read it very soon! :)))

  2. I just read it and I def recommend it

  3. Oh I want to read this one. I may have to come over and steal it off your shelf. Then of course, it would probably end up in my Throwback post. LOL

  4. I quite enjoyed reading this one. It wasn't perfect, but it was still a good read, and it's getting harder and harder to find YA books with a traditional fantasy setting rather than an urban fantasy one. I think this is one you'll also enjoy, when you get around to it.
