My Book Haul/In My Mailbox

The Story Siren hosts a weekly meme where bloggers can share what goodies they've purchased/received this week. If you get a chance head over to The Story Siren and check out what everyone is up to! So earlier this week I waxed lyrical about Read It-Swap It so today I wanted to show of some of the books I got in exchange for my old books! :-)

Hunter's Moon - CT Adams and Cathy Clamp
Publisher: Tor Books
Tony, a hitman for the Mafia, was brutally attacked during a hit gone wrong. He woke up furry, and now, with every full moon, he changes into a wolf. Months later, Tony has a bad feeling that the wolf-senses are encroaching on his human life. This is confirmed when he meets a new client, Sue, and feels an immediate attraction to her. But there's a bigger problem - she wants to hire him to kill her. As he's drawn further into her life and her problems, the wolf inside of him clamors to be let out - and he realizes he's not the only one around whose life is ruled by the moon ... But Tony and Sue's enemies aren't only those in the mob and aren't just furry. Sue's family has their own agenda, and Tony is definitely in the way.

I read one of the Tales of Sazi books last year and really enjoyed it so when I saw this the first of the series was available I wasted no time in requesting it! :)

Noughts and Crosses - Majorie Blackman
Publisher: Corgi Childrens Books
Sephy is a Cross – a member of the dark-skinned ruling class. Callum is a nought – a ‘colourless’ member of the underclass who were once slaves to the Crosses. The two have been friends since early childhood. But that’s as far as it can go. Until the first steps are taken towards more social equality and a limited number of Noughts are allowed into Cross schools… Against a background of prejudice and distrust, intensely highlighted by violent terrorist activity by Noughts, a romance builds between Sephy and Callum – a romance that is to lead both of them into terrible danger…

This is a classic YA that everyone should read...except I haven't yet. Maybe I can remedy it now.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies - Jane Austen & Seth Grahame-Smith
Publisher: UK - Quirk Books
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, an expanded edition of the beloved Jane Austen novel featuring all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie mayhem. As our story opens, a mysterious plague has fallen upon the quiet English village of Meryton and the dead are returning to life! Feisty heroine Elizabeth Bennet is determined to wipe out the zombie menace, but she's soon distracted by the arrival of the haughty and arrogant Mr. Darcy. What ensues is a delightful comedy of manners with plenty of civilized sparring between the two young lovers and even more violent sparring on the blood-soaked battlefield as Elizabeth wages war against hordes of flesh-eating undead. Can she vanquish the spawn of Satan? And overcome the social prejudices of the class-conscious landed gentry? Complete with romance, heartbreak, swordfights, cannibalism, and thousands of rotting corpses, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies transforms a masterpiece of world literature into something you'd actually want to read.

Okay, so some of you know I've never read Pride and Prejudice, but when I saw this on Read it-Swap It I thought, by combining it with my new found fondness for zombies I might easy my way into it. Blodeuedd - please forgive me! :-)

What's a Ghoul To Do? - Victoria Laurie
Publisher: Signet Book
M.J. Holliday's a medium with a message-her business is helping lost souls cross over to the other side. But what if the ghosts want to stay put? M.J. Holliday has two rules. One, she and her partner, Gilley Gillespie, work alone; and two, she doesn't date clients. But when handsome Dr. Steven Sable needs her help, the specter-spotting sleuth is ready to break both of her rules. It seems the hot doc's grandfather jumped from the roof of the family lodge in an apparent suicide. But Dr.Sable knows in his bones it was foul play, and strange things keep happening at the lodge. He'll hire M.J. and Gilley-but only if he can come along. Hey, the duo needs the money-and looking at eye candy all weekend doesn't sound too bad either...But once they reach the lodge, the three realise they're dealing with more ghosts than just Grandpa Sable's. And the spooks keep playing nasty tricks on their human visitors. To the untrained eye, it would appear that ghouls just want to have fun. But M.J. knows they're communicating their distress-and it's up to her to figure out why...

This just sounds like a lot of fun!

Angelology - Danielle Trussoni
Publisher: UK - Penguin
When Sister Evangeline of the St Rose Convent stumbles across a mysterious correspondence with Abigail Rockefeller in the archive, it reveals that angels once walked among us … and might still. This discovery plunges Evangeline into the hidden and dangerous world of the Angelologists – a secret society that battles to prevent the ascendancy of the Nephilim, the angels’ descendants on Earth. Evangeline becomes the catalyst in a race to hunt down powerful and ancient artefacts that can be used to enslave humankind. And not only is the key to finding those artefacts within her grasp – but also a secret about her own past and its links to the Angelologists.
Possession of either could cost Evangeline her life . . .

Angels do seem to be pretty in over the last year and I was intrigued by blurb. It's another one of those big books so I will have to start scheduling these books in!

Paranormalcy - Kiersten White
Publisher: Harper Collins
Sixteen-year-old Evie has always taken comfort in the fact that she is normal, even though her best friend is a mermaid and her ex-boyfriend is a lunatic – and a faery. In a world where paranormals are monitored and controlled, Evie works for the International Paranormal Containment Agency because of her unique ability to see through glamours. But someone – or something – starts killing vampires, werewolves and other paranormals, and Evie must figure out what’s happening before they all disappear. Then a shapeshifter named Lend breaks into the agency, and Evie is irresistibly drawn to him, even though he makes her aware that the IPCA is not as noble as she once thought. With everything Evie believes suddenly called into question, the IPCA is attacked and she must choose who she can really trust. And when Evie discovers she’s part of a faerie prophecy of death and destruction… so much for normal.

  10. Good IMM. I want to read Hunter's Moon too! Gimmie! ;)

Oh I did win Angelology, but something went wrong, but hopefully I will be getting it soon. Funny thing was that I had a dream about it. I dreamt that there was a forged copy out there by the same name and that is what I won and was prohibited from getting the real copy. lol
