My Book Haul/In My Mailbox

The Story Siren hosts a weekly meme where bloggers can share what goodies they've purchased/received this week. If you get a chance head over to The Story Siren and check out what everyone is up to!
With luck and some will-power this will be the last IMM for a while - I am no offically on a book buying ban! I'm still going to be allowed to swap and request from netgalley but no paying for books until I've done all my Christmas shopping!

The Name of the Star - Maureen Johnson
Publisher: UK - HarperCollins
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago. Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn't notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target? In this edge-of-your-seat thriller, full of suspense, humor, and romance, Rory will learn the truth about the secret ghost police of London and discover her own shocking abilities.

I've been after this for a few weeks after readings lots of positive reviews, so when I spotted in Tesco I couldn't resist picking it up! :-)

The Enemy - Charlie Higson
Publisher: UK - Puffin
They'll chase you. They'll rip you open. They'll feed on you ...When the sickness came, every parent, police officer, politician - every adult - fell ill. The lucky ones died. The others are crazed, confused and hungry. Only children under fourteen remain, and they're fighting to survive. Now there are rumours of a safe place to hide.

This is another one I've been unable to get the premise out my head and so I finally gave in and purchased it!

Trance - Kelly Meding
Publisher: Pocket Books
Fifteen years ago, Teresa “Trance” West was a skilled telepath and a proud member of the Ranger Corps. But ever since the Rangers were inexplicably rendered powerless at the climax of the devastating Meta War, she’s bounced from one dead-end job to another. Now her powers have reappeared just as mysteriously as they vanished— only they’re completely transformed and more potent than ever. And they’re threatening to destroy her.
Trance heads to Los Angeles to track down the surviving Rangers and discover who restored her powers—and why—but a phantom enemy is determined to kill them before they can reassemble. As they dodge his deadly attacks and come to terms with their new role as heroes, Trance and the rest of the team set out to annihilate the sinister madman . . . only to discover their own powers are his greatest weapons

I pre-ordered this ages ago and it arrived  last week! Sounds just yummy!

Awakening - S.J. Bolton
Publisher: UK - Corgi
Veterinary surgeon Clara Benning is young and intelligent, but practically a recluse. Disfigured by a childhood accident, she lives alone and shies away from human contact wherever possible. But when a man dies following a supposed snake bite, the victim's post mortem shows a higher concentration of venom than could ever be found in a single snake. Assisted by her softly spoken neighbour and an eccentric reptile expert, Clara unravels sinister links to a barbaric ancient ritual, an abandoned house and a 50-year-old tragedy that left the survivors fiercely secretive. Then the village's inventive attacker strikes again, and Clara's own solitary existence is brutally invaded. For someone the truth must remain buried in the past ...even if they have to kill to keep it there.

SJ Bolton is an author I've really been enjoying this year so when I had the opportunity to pick this up in a swap on Readit-Swapit, I did!

The Chocolate Lover's Diet - Carole Matthews
Publisher: UK - Headline
Lucy Lombard thought her ‘Happily Ever After’ was all sorted when her gorgeous boss finally declared his love for her, but when she catches him in bed with another woman it’s time to call an emergency meeting of The Chocolate Lovers’ Club. Inevitably, she’s not the only member with problems – Autumn, Nadia and Chantal all find themselves with dilemmas to face - the question is how much chocolate will it take to make it better...

Another swap - and as I like chocolate (who doesn't?) and haven't read much chick-lit for a while I though this might fill a gap! :)

So what have you picked up this week?
