My Book Haul/Showcase Sundays

I've decided to join Books, Biscuits and Tea's Showcase Sunday to share my lovely book hauls each week. Have a look back at Vicki's link up to see what everyone is up too!

The Fear (The Enemy #3) - Charlie Higson
Publisher: Puffin
The sickness struck everyone over the age of fourteen.
Mothers and fathers, older brothers, sisters and best friends. No one escaped its touch. And now children across London are being hunted by ferocious grown-ups . . .
They’re hungry. They’re bloodthirsty. And they aren’t giving up.
Dog Nut and the rest of his crew want to find their lost friends, and set off on a deadly mission from the Tower of London to Buckingham Palace and beyond, as the sickos lie in wait. But who are their friends and who is the enemy in this changed world?

With the start of the Male Genre Review I wanted to stock up on some reading materials for the challenge - and what better than the third of a series I'm really enjoying!

1.4 - Mike A Lancaster
Publisher: Egmont
In the far future, people no longer know what to believe...Did Kyle Straker ever exist? Or were his prophecies of human upgrades nothing more than a hoax?
Peter Vincent is nearly 16, and has never thought about the things that Strakerites believe. His father — David Vincent, creator of the artificial bees that saved the world's crops — made sure of that. When the Strakerites pronounce that another upgrade is imminent, Peter starts to uncover a conspiracy amongst the leaders of the establishment, a conspiracy that puts him into direct conflict with his father. But it's not a good idea to pick a fight with someone who controls all the artificial bees in the world?

This is the sequel to the excellent 0.4 which I read last year and adored. I knew I wanted to get my hands on this - plus it's another book for the All Male Genre Review!

The Song of Achillies - Madeline Miller
Publisher: Bloomsbury Publishing
Patroclus, an awkward young prince, has been exiled to the kingdom of Phthia. Here he is just another unwanted boy living in the shadow of King Peleus and his golden son, Achilles. Yet one day, Achilles takes the shamed prince under his wing. As they grow into young men their bond blossoms into something far deeper — despite the displeasure of Achilles's mother. When word comes that Helen of Sparta has been kidnapped, the men of Greece are called upon to lay siege to Troy in her name. Seduced by the promise of a glorious destiny, Achilles joins their cause. Torn between love and fear for his friend, Patroclus follows Achilles into war, little knowing that the years that follow will test everything they have learned...

I haven't read a historical book for a while but I do like them and this has had some great reviews!

The Watchers - Jon Steele
Publisher: Bantam
Lausanne, Switzerland. In the cathedral tower lives a strange boy with a limp who talks to the bells. In a luxury penthouse lives a high-class prostitute who's in mortal danger. And in a low-rent hotel lives a private investigator who has no idea how he got there. Jay Harper finds himself in Switzerland on the trail of a missing Olympic athlete. A hard drinker, he can barely remember how he got home last night, let alone why he accepted this job. When he meets the stunning but aloof Katherine in a hotel bar, he quickly realises that he's not the only one in town who's for hire. She's a high-class hooker who can't believe her luck. Which is about to change. For the worse. In the meantime, Marc Rochat spends his time in the belfry talking to the statues, his cat and the occasional ghost. His job is to watch over Lausanne at night and to wait for the angel his mother told him he'd one day have to save. When he sees Katherine, he thinks his moment has come. Which indeed it has. But not in a good way...

I won this from the Bantam website but haven't heard much about it. I quite like the sound of it!

The Road to Bedlam - Make Shevdon
Publisher: Angry Robots
Niall Petersen's whole life has been turned on its head by the revelation that he can do magic. Now he has just received the news no parent wants to hear. "There's been an accident. It's your daughter".
Learning to cope with the loss of a child is only the beginning of the new challenges facing Niall Petersen. An old enemy has returned and Niall already knows it’s not a social call.
As the new Warder of the Seven Courts he will be forced to choose between love and honour, duty and responsibility. These choices will lead him to discover the darkest secrets buried right at the core of the ancient mortal realm he now calls home.

I'm looking for more British Urban Fantasy to read so this is one series I'm looking forward to reading.
