My Book Haul / Showcase Sundays

I've decided to join Books, Biscuits and Tea's Showcase Sunday to share my lovely book hauls each week. Have a look back at Vicki's link up to see what everyone is up too!

Fury's Kiss (Dorina Basarab #3) - Karen Chance
Publisher: Penguin
Dorina Basarab is a dhampir—half-human, half-vampire. Subject to uncontrollable rages, most dhampirs live very short, very violent lives. But so far, Dory has managed to maintain her sanity by unleashing her anger on those demons and vampires who deserve killing...
Dory is used to fighting hard and nasty. So when she wakes up in a strange scientific lab with a strange man standing over her, her first instinct is to take his head off. Luckily, the man is actually the master vampire Louis-Cesare, so he’s not an easy kill.  It turns out that Dory had been working with a Vampire Senate task force on the smuggling of magical items and weaponry out of Faerie when she was captured and brought to the lab. But when Louis-Cesare rescues her, she has no memory of what happened to her.  To find out what was done to her—and who is behind it—Dory will have to face off with fallen angels, the maddest of mad scientists, and a new breed of vampires that are far worse
than undead

I've always enjoyed Karen Chance's fast paced Urban Fantasy (not least because of the time travel and historical characters she throws in!) so I had this on pre-order ages ago. And then I completely forgot about it so I was very excitd when this turned this week! :-)

The Hallowed Ones - Laura Bickle
Publisher: Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Katie is on the verge of her Rumspringa, the time in Amish life when teenagers can get a taste of the real world. But the real world comes to her in this dystopian tale with a philosophical bent. Rumors of massive unrest on the “Outside” abound. Something murderous is out there. Amish elders make a rule: No one goes outside, and no outsiders come in. But when Katie finds a gravely injured young man, she can’t leave him to die. She smuggles him into her family’s barn—at what cost to her community?

Laura Bickle has written some of my favourite UF books in the last couple of years and now she's turned her attention to YA dystopia. This was another pre-order from ages ago but I didn't forget it it was coming and hope to start it soon! :-)

The Gunslinger (Dark Tower #1) - Stephen King
Publisher: Hodder
He is a haunting figure, a loner on a spellbinding journey into good and evil. In his desolate world, which frighteningly mirrors our own, Roland pursues The Man in Black, encounters an alluring woman named Alice, and begins a friendship with the Kid from Earth called Jake.

Now, I read the Dark Tower Series over a few years a long time ago, but I did enjoy it. My least favourite book of the series is probably The Gunslinger and I very nearly didn't pick up the second book (Luckily a reduced book offering overcame my reluctance to start The Drawing of the Three). However, Stephen King has since gone back and re-written parts of The Gunslinger and this is the new version. Plus it has a gorgeous cover which I adore. I think I will try to pick up the whole set in these covers cos at the moment my books are a variety of sizes, shapes and covers!

Darklands (Deadtown #4) - Nancy Holzner
Publisher:Ace
They call it Deadtown: the city’s quarantined section for its inhuman and undead residents. Most humans stay far from its border—but Victory Vaughn, Boston’s only professional demon slayer, isn’t exactly human…
Boston’s demons have been disappearing, and Vicky’s clients are canceling left and right. While fewer demons might seem like a good thing, Vicky suspects foul play. A missing Celtic cauldron from Harvard’s Peabody museum leads her to an unwelcome conclusion: Pryce, her demi-demon cousin and bitter enemy, is trying to regain his full powers. But Pryce isn’t alone. He’s conjured another, darker villain from Vicky’s past. To stop them from destroying everything she loves, she’ll have to face her own worst fear—in the realm of the dead itself.

I ordered this as soon as my book buying ban ended! I loved the first two books in the Deadtown series so I'm looking forward to catching up with Vicky!

A Monster Calls - Patrick Ness
Publisher: Walker Books
The monster showed up after midnight. As they do.
But it isn't the monster Conor's been expecting. He's been expecting the one from his nightmare, the one he's had nearly every night since his mother started her treatments, the one with the darkness and the wind and the screaming...
This monster is something different, though. Something ancient, something wild. And it wants the most dangerous thing of all from Conor.
It wants the truth.

This is another book I bought with my birthday vouchers...I think it's going to make me cry though!

So what did you pick up this week?
