On My Wishlist #55

This is a meme from Book Chick City. There are so many books out there that I want to read that this is the only way I can keep track! This week I'm loving some home town action - books based in London!

The Name of the Star - Maureen Johnson
Publisher: Putnam (Released 29th September 2011)
The day Louisiana teenager Rory Deveaux arrives in London marks a memorable occasion. For Rory, it's the start of a new life at a London boarding school. But for many, this will be remembered as the day a series of brutal murders broke out across the city, gruesome crimes mimicking the horrific Jack the Ripper events of more than a century ago. Soon “Rippermania” takes hold of modern-day London, and the police are left with few leads and no witnesses. Except one. Rory spotted the man police believe to be the prime suspect. But she is the only one who saw him. Even her roommate, who was walking with her at the time, didn't notice the mysterious man. So why can only Rory see him? And more urgently, why has Rory become his next target?

Jack the Ripper holds a bit of a fascintation for me and this just sounds so cool! I love stories where Ripper is brought into the modern day! :-)

Moon Over Soho (Peter Grant 2) - Ben Aaronovitch
Publisher: UK - Gollancz (October 2011)
The song. That’s what London constable and sorcerer’s apprentice Peter Grant first notices when he examines the corpse of Cyrus Wilkins, part-time jazz drummer and full-time accountant, who dropped dead of a heart attack while playing a gig at Soho’s 606 Club. The notes of the old jazz standard are rising from the body—a sure sign that something about the man’s death was not at all natural but instead supernatural. Body and soul—they’re also what Peter will risk as he investigates a pattern of similar deaths in and around Soho. With the help of his superior officer, Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, the last registered wizard in England, and the assistance of beautiful jazz aficionado Simone Fitzwilliam, Peter will uncover a deadly magical menace—one that leads right to his own doorstep and to the squandered promise of a young jazz musician: a talented trumpet player named Richard “Lord” Grant—otherwise known as Peter’s dear old dad.

Okay, so I haven't read the first Peter Grant book, Rivers of London yet, but I will! I do have a copy waiting for me though - and I think I'll like it, so I want the second book...just so I don't have to wait too long before London hits! :-)

 Neverwhere - Neil Gaiman
Publisher: Headline
When Richard Mayhew stops one day to help a girl he finds bleeding on a London sidewalk, his life is forever altered, for he finds himself propelled into an alternate reality that exists in a subterranean labyrinth of sewer canals and abandoned subway stations. He has fallen through the cracks of reality and has landed somewhere different, somewhere that is Neverwhere.

This is one book I've been wanting for ages - but my mind always seems to forget it when I'm in the bookstore! Neil Gaiman really impressed me with American Gods earlier in the year and I really should make the effort to read more of his books!

So what are you wishing for this week?
