On My Wishlist #67

This is a meme from Book Chick City. There are so many books out there that I want to read that this is the only way I can keep track! This week I'm after something magical...

Dark Still (Magic Most Foul 1) - Leanna Renee Hieber
Publisher: Sourcebooks Fire
New York City, 1882. Seventeen-year-old Natalie Stewart's latest obsession is a painting of the handsome British Lord Denbury. Something in his striking blue eyes calls to her. As his incredibly life-like gaze seems to follow her, Natalie gets the uneasy feeling that details of the painting keep changing...
Jonathan Denbury's soul is trapped in the gilded painting by dark magic while his possessed body commits unspeakable crimes in the city slums. He must lure Natalie into the painting, for only together can they reverse the curse and free his damaged soul.

The short story I read by Leanna Renee Hieber in A Mid-Winter Fantasy was the highlight for me. This books has been popping up around the blogs and looks so atmospheric.

Darkborn - Alison Sinclair
Publisher: Roc
For the Darkborn, sunlight kills. For the Lightborn, darkness is fatal. Living under a centuries-old curse, the Darkborn and the Lightborn share the city of Minhorne, coexisting in an uneasy equilibrium but never interacting. When Darkborn physician Balthasar Hearne finds a pregnant fugitive on his doorstep just before sunrise, he has no choice but to take her in. Tercelle Amberley's betrothed is a powerful Darkborn nobleman, but her illicit lover came to her through the daytime. When she gives birth to twin boys, they can see, something unheard of among the Darkborn. When men come for the boys, Balthasar is saved by the intervention of his Lightborn neighbor-and healed by the hands of his wife, Telmaine. Soon he finds himself drawn deeper into political intrigue and magical attacks, while Telmaine must confront a power she can no longer keep sheathed in gloves, a power she neither wants nor can control.

I love the idea of two sets of people sharing the same city and the magic of this world really appeals to me.

Libriomancer - Jim C Hines
Publisher: Daw Books
Isaac Vainio is a Libriomancer, a member of the secret organization founded five centuries ago by Johannes Gutenberg. Libriomancers are gifted with the ability to magically reach into books and draw forth objects. When Isaac is attacked by vampires that leaked from the pages of books into our world, he barely manages to escape. To his horror he discovers that vampires have been attacking other magic-users as well, and Gutenberg has been kidnapped. With the help of a motorcycle-riding dryad who packs a semi-automatic pistol and a pair of oak cudgels, Isaac finds himself hunting the unknown dark power that has been manipulating humans and vampires alike. And his search will uncover dangerous secrets about Libriomancy, Gutenberg, and the history of magic.

I spotted this a couple of weeks ago at Melissa's Books and Things - and as my Saturday job when I was teen was in the local library, I thought this sounded like so much! It's not out until Summer 2012 so I will be chopping at the bit until then! :-)

What are you wishing for this week?
